Finally Winter Brings Bucheon Snow
12:21 Wed 8th Feb 2006 (GMT +9 Seoul)
It has been a rather mild winter here in Korea, by mild I mean not many days reached the point of your snot freezing. This unfortunately meant we have seen very little snow. Now I'm not one to complain about a mild winter, however coming from New Zealand where we can hardly say we even have winter compared to the northern hemisphere the beauty of snow would be appreciated. Well finally as we near the end of winter and head to the unbearable heat of summer I got my wish. Yesterday I woke to Bucheon covered in a couple of inches of snow.
In little Dunedin we would have shut the whole city down for at least a day here, but it was business as usual. My middle school kids lately have been fantastic. I have one class that is really enthusiastic to learn about things other than the useless books they give us here to teach from, so we have started on topics more relevant to their lives, for example Korean High versus American High School. You should see their faces when you tell them that the average high school finished about 3.30pm, compared to the 10pm finish they have here.
Priceless
