It's an interesting life you lead here as a teacher. Friends come and go as contracts end or the temptation to take all the money we earn here and travel the world. This weekend was Anthony's last weekend here after 4 years in and out of the country. I have only had the privilege of knowing him over the past 6 months even though it turned out that we were on various adventure Korea trips at the beginning of last year. Anthony leaves us to travel Asia before moving back the the states.
Needless to say Friday night meant a mandatory trip to Ilsan (Anothony's little area of Seoul) to have that last drink and eat Bacon and Eggs at 6 in the morning at Dave and Cathy's before falling asleep on a bus on the way home only to be woken up be the bus driver an hour later. It turns out that Anthony is going to be in Thailand at the end of the month, the same time I will be there to see Sunil so there's at least one or two more nights of chatting ahead.
Making friends in a foreign country as you can see has his ups and downs, however bonds become stronger quicker which is a nice feeling. If you ask me its really a strange part of human nature. Throw a bunch of foreigners in a non-English speaking country and you tend to put yourself out there, compared to living at home where everyone has their own little group and friends and tends to keep to themselves. I know what I prefer.
Saturday night ended up being another long night as well with yet another dinner for Chris's birthday. When you turn 30 you should get a least a week of value out of it and that's exactly what Chris got. Today (Sunday) however the body is screaming out to cut the late nights down for at least the next week or two, so I'm going to turn into a hermit this week and concentrate on goals I put on the sideline these past few weeks.
One last little note. My younger brother is engaged to be married (CONGRATS LITTLE BRO) so I'll be coming back to the motherland for a couple of weeks in July. It's definitely going to be strange being back in New Zealand after over two years away, but I can't wait to see me friends.
