Scuba Diving With Sharks

A Shark goes overhead

It was a very eventful weekend here in Korea. Not only did I get to see Busan, a city at the southern end of South Korea, but I also got to dive with sharks. The following links are pictures and movies (to be added in the next few days) that compliment this entry.

Black and White Photos, Shark Diving, Busan, Movies

After a busy 2 weeks organizing 15 people to come down to Busan and dive the day finally arrived. It took the whole day but was well worth it. Our group consisting of Chris, Jeremy, Cindy, Tash, and myself went into the water about 7.30pm at night, did some training before and finally submerged ourselves in the Busan Aquarium main shark tank about 8.40pm. Now you would think getting into a tank of 20 sharks, some as long as 3 meters would be scary, but it really isn't. I had the privilege of staring into the eyes of a 3m sand tiger shark as it swam past my head no more the half a meter away. I was more curious as to what they thought about us being in the tank with them than whether or not they could take a huge chunk out of my leg whenever they felt like it. All in all it is an experience that I won't forget anytime soon, and hope to repeat in open water at a later date.

The rest of the weekend was spent partying in Busan (Hae-undae beach). Fabulous weather, great company and even better times. Sunday turned out to be a scorcher so we spent time on the beach and on a boat cruise around the bay before just chillin out in an amphitheater overlooking the ocean. The place and views reminded me a lot of San Francisco and Sausalito where Katie, Nate and I took a walk last year.

Almost forgot, I have finally been on the high speed train called the KTX which takes you from Seoul to Busan in just under 3 hours. A very nice smooth ride.
