Haeundae Beach at Night

8 months into my contract and its term break vacation time again. Unfortunately the planned trip to meet Sunil in Thailand fell through due to the inability to obtain air tickets. So plan B was put into action.

Saturday Laura, my co-worker at Kangs and also a fellow Kiwi, boarded the KTX for my second trip to Busan in as many weeks to take in some sun and surf. And that's exactly what we did. Two full days of doing nothing but lounging around the Arpina Youth Hostel (My Photos of Arpina), which is by far the nicest hostel I have ever stayed in, and wandering around the Haeundae beach front of Busan. Of course its not really a Jared vacation without a little adventure so on the third day (Monday) I convinced Laura to take a cable car ride and go for a small hike in the surrounding mountains of Busan. (For those who don't know what a small hike means just ask Kent)

It started as a beautiful summers day around 20 degrees when we arrived at the base of the cable car around 11am. Laura proceeded to tell me that she was scared of such rides. That didn't stop me from talking her into getting on and taking the ride up. I have to say it was rather amusing as she crouched down trying not to look out at the view of Busan. Needless to say Laura was determined not to go back down which suited me fine as I wanted a decent days hiking anyway. Around 5 hours later, we had traversed from the South Gate of the Geumjeong Fortress (The largest remaining fortress in Korea) to the East Gate, up to the North Gate, and finally down to Beomeosa (Temple).

Somehow I don't think Laura will be in any rush to go on a small walk with me again. I have to give her some credit, as she did not whinge once other than to say it was way too hot, to which I totally agreed.

Now its Tuesday and I'm back at home ready for another 2 month term of teaching. It also means that its only 2 months until I head back to New Zealand for my brother Andrews wedding.

Its been 2 years, 3 months and 19 days since I last laid foot on the mother land and I'm really looking forward to eating fish and chips.
