Busan and Deokjeokdo

10:27 Mon 9th Oct 2006 (GMT +9 Seoul)

I looked online yesterday and realized that I haven't written anything for the past month. Talk about lazy.

So whats been happening in the life of Jared this past month? The tall and short of it is, not that much, or that is what I thought until I took a look back at the photos on my camera. September was definitely busier than I remember.

With the parents now safely back in New Zealand it was time to enjoy the last remaining days of Summer/Autumn. The best way to do this of course is to go to the South of Korea to a city called Busan and dive with sharks, so a group of 18 of us went down and spent a weekend basking in the sun at Haeundae beach and swimming with tiger sharks, lemon sharks and a whole lot of fish.

As for the rest of the month, this past week has been the biggest Korean vacation (Cheuseok, Korean Thanksgiving), which has meant that no work from the 3rd-7th of October, a very nice break indeed. During Chuseok Seoul becomes a ghost town and most teachers go overseas, however with all the extra expenses from traveling to NZ and having the parents and Katie here I decided to use the vacation as a break from the hectic travel life.

Katie, Tom (Irish), Alexis and myself decided to take advantage of the remaining gorgeous weather and head out to an island called Deokjeokdo which is just off the coast of Incheon (about 1 hour on a ferry). Deokjeokdo is one of the most beautiful places I have been to in Korea. I can't believe its taken over 2 years to find such a place. For two days we wandered on the beach and hiked the hills in the mountains. A most relaxing time - thanks Tom.

And that brings me to today - Monday. Yep back to work. On the bright side Katie and I will be heading back to the US for xmas with her family so at least there is something to look forward too. It turns out that Sunil, Viv, Michelle and Ben will be in New York the same time, so here's hoping we can sort something out guys.

Till later

(Oh yeah. For those waiting for Busan photos, sorry. I have just bought a new computer and have yet to install my photo software for editing and uploading photos.)
