What a weekend
04:34 Tue 19th Dec 2006 (GMT +9 Seoul)
Only one week before the official end of my job and of course until Christmas.
On Friday night I met Katie in Seoul to view the Christmas lights around city hall and Cheongyechung. I have to give it to the Koreans, when they do something they go all out. (As you will see from these pictures) This however was just the start to a big weekend. The anxiously awaited day of Chris's Xmas party was here and yet again Chris delivered with unmatched style.
Katie and I arrived slightly earlier than everyone else to soak in the atmosphere and of course be first to get stuck into Chris's cookies.
I'd like to take the opportunity to add a quick rant. Before everyone arrived I shot out to HomeEver, formerly Carrefour for some extra party supplies only to find that the whole store had been closed for renovations until the 26th of December. (In Korea such things make sense) Not having started much luck with my mission I decided to head to E-mart, formerly WalMart. This is where my disappointment culminated to a the point of shear frustration with the culture. Not only had they taken away the one brand name that was comforting on those hard-to-handle-Korea days, they had also stripped the old walmart of all the western things that made it a place that it different. CONFORMITY THE COMMUNIST WAY. I am now officially boycotting Emart for stripping me of my needs as a foreigner to identify with the western civilization.
OK Back to Chris's. The 2nd Annual Xmas party begun with the official tree trimming followed by games games games. My favorite was definitely pin the the candy cane Santa's little helper. Santa also put in an appearance delivering goodies for all.
I do believe the highlight of the night however was Chris's Christmas Carols. Never a dull moment. I took the liberty of filming the majority of them so click on the names here to enjoy.
April and Amy, Jared, Irish Tom and Alexis, Texas Tom and Sarah, Dave and Kath, Kevin and Ali, Marcia and Nile, Mel, Anthony, Stacey, Katie, Hannah and finally Chris's Ode to us all.
Pictures from the party are available here
Please note there are a few still missing. I hope to have these up when I next post
To top the the night off though (and I don't know how Chris did it) it started to snow, and snow, and snow. Yep the night of Chris's party marked the first real snow here in Bucheon, so much so that the majority of people who came had a very difficult time getting home as taxis weren't picking people up.
Photos of Bucheon in the snow can be viewed here.
All in all another Chris you did a fantastic job and I'm looking forward to the 3rd annual should we all make it that far.
